I started my teaching career full-time in 2006 with Virginia College in which I was invited to design a new program for the Masters of Arts Education Administration. In which I researched textbooks, designed curriculum and presented options to the Program Chair. In addition I was asked to update current classes to the Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration program. While at Virginia College I was trained in WebCt, Angel and eCollege. My passion has always been in teaching, in which I taught the following courses on a regular basis: Introduction to Business, Workplace Ethics and Education, E-Business Principles and Practice, Organizational Human Relations, Total Quality Management, Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship, Strategic Global Management, Strategic Management and Educational Marketing, Higher Education Admissions and Financial Aid, Educational Management and Leadership, Small Business Management and Strategic Management.
My teaching expanded to other colleges and universities on a part-time/adjunct role. I was invited to teach at Southwestern College, Bellevue University, Grantham University, Ashford University, University of Arizona Global Campus, Pima Community College and Grand Canyon University. Most recently I have joined Purdue University and Pima Medical Institute.
In 2012 I accepted a full-time position as a core faculty member with Ashford University, which is now University of Arizona Global Campus. Initially I started with the Marketing and Public Relations division. In 2016 I was moved to the Forbes School of Business and Technology, MBA program as a Lead Faculty / Associate Professor.
My teaching philosophy consists of three main elements; students, commitment, and motivation. I believe that students come first; they are the reason I am teaching. Each student comes to school to pursue a degree for various reasons. I am one of many instructors they will meet and my hope is that, not only do they walk away with an education and higher level of knowledge in the subject, but also that as they move forward in their careers; they will be able to reflect back on their education and the lessons that were discussed and learned.
I am very passionate about higher education and truly believe that it opens doors and makes a difference in one’s overall life. I take my classes very seriously and I believe it shows in my interaction with my students and through their feedback. I value my students and the commitment they have set forward in achieving their goals. My philosophy is to challenge them in effort to help them develop academically in addition to supporting them as they do progress in their educational goals. Bottom line; I am committed to working with them and helping them to understand the subjects at hand.
As a student, I experienced many styles of teaching. I had instructors that really cared and took time to work with their students. Individuals that stood out against the rest as those that really cared and were motivated by the success of their student’s achievements. Those are the instructors I wish to model. They influenced me in my learning and today in my teaching. Motivation is key element that keeps one focused and energized in their activities.
